DAY 1: Machu Picchu Tour by Expedition Train – Full Day
Transfer from your hotel at approximately 5.30 -5.45 am. The train ride consists of spectacular views of this wonderful land of the Incas. You will see amazing landscapes of mountains and valleys, Inca farming terraces on both sides of the valley, snow capped mountains and sub-tropical jungle near the Ceja de Selva. From Pachar the sacred Vilcanota river will be our companion until we arrive at Aguas Calientes (2040m) also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. Your guide will meet you at the train station and transfer you to the bus for a 25 minute ride to Machu Picchu. A guided tour of Machu Picchu also called “The Old Sacred Mountain” takes approximately 2 hrs and then you have some free time for photos.
Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, is where the last emperors, priests and priestesses took refuge and where the empire survived for 40 years after the arrival of the Spaniards. Machu Picchu is a prodigy of architecture with aesthetic recklessness and majestic views.
The bus ticket down to the town of Aguas Calientes is included. You have two options for your return to Cusco. The first option is to take a train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, then take a private bus from Ollantaytambo to your accommodation in Cusco. The second option is a train from Aguas Calientes to Poroy, Cusco. Your transfer from Poroy to your accommodation is included.
